Iguassu Falls Extension

Detailed Itinerary - 4 Days / 3 Nights Black Pool Trail

DAY 1 Iguassu

Arrive to Iguassu and transfer to the hotel. Check in and overnight at Hotel Loi Suites or similar.

DAY 2 Iguassu Falls / Argentinean Waterfalls / Gran Aventura Boat Tour

Visit the Argentinean side of Iguassu Falls, located 30 kms from downtown Foz, and 24 kms from Puerto Iguassu. Start at the Visitors Center to learn more about the importance of the biodiversity of the subtropical humid forest. Board a gas-propelled train to get to the catwalks overlooking the falls on the Upper Falls Circuit and the Devil's Throat. The walking tour takes place through the lower circuit catwalks for approximately 1 hour and the upper circuit catwalks for approximately 50 minutes. Once at the Devil's Throat Station, take a walking tour on a flat catwalk built over the Upper Iguassu River, with an extension of 1100 meters that leads to the balconies for an amazing panoramic view of this magnificent waterfall.

Finish your day with a guided boat tour. Your guide will lead you down the Sendero Yacaratia Trail as far as Puerto Macuco, on the banks of the Iguassu River, in order to board motor boats made specially for this type of navigation. We then leave to go up the rapids in the lower Iguassu River, for about 6 kilometers of rock and vegetation, up to 80 meters high, as far as the majestic Devil's Throat. Transfer back to the hotel and overnight.

DAY 3 Black Pool Trail / Brazilian Falls

After breakfast, depart for a special 9-kilometer trail in the subtropical humid forest. Once we reach the end of the trail, we will visit the Observation Tower overlooking the Jacare Lagoon. Then board a comfortable outboard motored boat for a tour on the Upper Iguassu River to the Taquara Islands. Raft on double inflatable kayaks through the Taquara Islands for half an hour. Afterwards, get on the motor boat again to continue downstream the Iguassu River, passing the Papagaio Island to the Porto Bananeiras. Disembark and jeep ride through the Bananeira Trail.

The Upper Iguassu is located upstream from Iguassu Falls. In this region, the Iguassu River is very wide, with a width of up to 800 meters and rather shallow (approximately 1 meter deep at normal river level) with calm waters and a landscape totally different from the one in its lower part. During this tour we observe the exuberant flora of this type of forest highlighting a very impressive area dominated by a great concentration of palms. Apart from the ever present orchids, bromeliads, and cacti, we can also observe the jacaratia tree, the killer fig, and many others. With some luck we will observe animals like the capuchin monkey, the yellow-bellied cayman, and birds like the neotropic cormorant, the snail kite, the toco toucan, the plush-crested jay, and others.

Depart to the Brazilian side of Iguassu Falls. Once at the Falls, the tour takes place over an easy-to-walk path of approximately 1,200 meters. At the end of the tour, we are presented with a panoramic view of the Falls, from a platform where we feel elated after an energizing bath tanks to the Floriano, Deodoro and Garganta do Diabo Falls. The tour ends on the upper part of the Falls, reached by a panoramic elevator. Depart for a n easy boat tour. Going up the river in specially prepared boats to get to the base of Iguassu Falls and admire them closely. Whirlpools, waves and currents provoked by the Falls add adrenaline and lots of emotions to this unforgettable tour. Transfer to the hotel and overnight.

DAY 4 Iguassu Falls

Breakfast. Transfer out to the airport.
